Known for being one of the most treacherous routes in the United States, the road curves through steep mountainous terrain, surrounded by bush and cacti and a limited number of gas stations.Īdding to the treachery, a segment of the trail remains unpaved between Tortilla Flat and Roosevelt Dam.
